Panama City. – The National Directorate of Electronic Signature of Panama's Public Registry reported that qualified electronic signature certificates must be renewed on time to ensure the continuity of the electronic invoicing system administered by the tax authority (DGI).
The process starts online. Taxpayers must have an active account on the official portal www.firmaelectronica.gob.pa and submit the corresponding renewal request from there.
Once in the system, the user must select the renewal option, complete the digital form and make the payment according to their profile (individual, legal representative or employee of a legal entity).
If the applicant is not the company's legal representative, a proxy declaration (F.E.P.) must be submitted, which formally authorizes a third party to complete the process on behalf of the legal entity.
The proxy or the legal representative must go in person to the offices of the National Directorate of Electronic Signature to pick up and install the new certificate on the corresponding cryptographic device.
The institution's headquarters is located on Avenida Samuel Lewis, across from the Fiscalía General de Cuentas, Edificio Firma Electrónica, Bella Vista, Panama City. 📍 View on Google Maps.
The renewed certificate is valid for two years. Once that period ends, the application and validation process must be repeated to keep its legal and tax validity.
The authorities recommended that users not wait until the expiration date and renew in advance, in order to avoid suspension of electronic invoicing and ensure the continuity of their business operations.
